Chinnor V Caldy Preview
Caldy make their first trip to Thame in Oxfordshire to meet the early league leaders Chinnor, who were
promoted from National 2 south last season after winning the North/South playoff against
Chinnor is a commuter village for Aylesbury and High Wycombe, it has an industry in cement and
furniture making artisans, the village grew from humble beginnings in the 1960’s the population
grew to nearly 4,500. Along with the rugby club, Chinnor also boasts a cricket and non-league
football club, who play in the Hellenic League Division One which is at level 10 of the pyramid.
Famous people to come from Chinnor include the U2 bassist Adam Clayton and the former BBC weather
presenter Bill Giles.
Chinnor were founded in 1962 and played their first match the following year, when they joined the
league system they progressed from the humble beginnings of the Bucks and Oxton Division 1 to
the national leagues by 2006, with only a history of 44 years they were the youngest team to
reach the high level.
The clubs successful junior section was founded in the 1970’s and has seen Premiership players come
through their ranks including former England winger Thomas Vandal.
Both teams will be looking to continue an impressive start to the season, the home side looking to
maintain their 100% start to the season winning all three games against Plymouth Albion 26-11
away on the opening day of the season, at home to Amphill and District in a cracking match 38-
33, with last week’s win at Cambridge the only time the team have failed to gain a four try bonus
Caldy will be looking for their first win on their travels this season and will be making the trip down to
Thame with a fully fit squad.
