Caldy momentum shift in battle for survival

It’s onwards and upwards in the battle for survival after last week’s 55-12 loss to the newly crowned

Coventry have been a class above the entirety of this league and for Caldy to draw the second half in
the manner they did can be used as a springboard to finish off the main aim of the season. Survival.
Birmingham Moseley are the opponents this week who arrive sitting in 6 th position with little to play
for. Caldy on the other hand have everything to play for. The prestige and position of the visitors will
do little to derail Caldy’s ambitions of remaining in National One for a second year running.

Moseley know of Caldy’s threat in competing till the very end. They were pushed to their utmost
limits in this fixture last time round in a thrilling 13-11 stalemate ending in charge down agony for
Rhys Hayes and Caldy.

The agony signalled the end of a difficult run for Caldy however. The performance propelled the
team into an impressive run – picking up 7 wins in the 13 games since – and a similar momentum-
shifting game is just what Simon Verbickas will be looking for.

The return of skipper Tom Sanders and the revered JJ Dickinson to the backrow will catalyse this,
adding leadership and try-scoring threat to the commanding Caldy pack.

Caldy welcome further firepower after a short-term loan deal was completed for Doncaster Knights
centre Lloyd Hayes, brother of fly-half Rhys. After a move from Rotherham Titans to his current club
Doncaster, Lloyd scored a crucial late try in a derby win against his former teammates proving not
only his ability to play at such a high level, but also his reputation for producing in the big games.
Lloyd will be looking to have an instant impact against Birmingham Moseley as Caldy look to change
the momentum and finish off the job they set out to do.

Simon Verbickas has selected the following squad:-

The 2 nd XV were due to play this weekend against Sale FC but now have no game.
The Junior Colts are away this Sunday against Birkenhead Park in league action
The Juniors are training at home this weekend.
The Under 13s are on tour to Newcastle this weekend.
Under 12s face Parkonians at home in the Cheshire Cup
The Minis are playing Chester with half away and half at home please check with your age group.

The Caldy Cougars continued their development as they played again on Wednesday night and
achieved their first win, well done ladies. The Cougars are our women’s touch team open to all ages
and they train every Tuesday from 7.30. Please feel free to come down and get involved.
