Joe Doyle

Age: 22.

Position: Centre.

Hometown: Heswall, Wirral.

First Club: Caldy RFC.

Junior Rugby: Joe had a soft spot for winning the Cheshire Cup at junior level, winning the tournament on three occasions. Doyle also represented Cheshire at under-18s level as well as becoming a regular in the Irish Exiles setup. Although Joe now specialises in the centre position, he has been a versatile player throughout his rugby career and has plenty of experience of playing in the backrow.

Senior Rugby: Joe’s rugby has gone from strength to strength since departing from The Wirral. His time at Loughborough University has seen him progress through the BUCS teams at a swift rate. Joe was awarded the captaincy of the Loughborough BUCS 1 team in his final year at the university as well as making a number of appearances for the Loughborough Students in National 1.

Decision to join Caldy: Joe has returned home to continue his studies and with Caldy competing at such a high level in national 1, he feels there is no better place to develop his game. His experience in the league can only benefit the club, as well as he himself benefitting from the coaching on offer. Joe’s experience so far in the senior setup at Caldy has been an enjoyable one, not least with the team bonding trip to Loggerheads, North Wales. Although Joe backed out of the caving with the rest of the squad, the overall experience was a memorable one for everyone involved.

Aspirations for the season ahead: Joe’s main ambition is to help the club to maintain their status in the national 1 division. He believes the club have all the right ingredients to become a regular side at this level. Personally, Joe is still in recovery frjom a serious ankle injury and hopes to be available for selection for by the end of September. The competition for places in the 1st XV is very strong this year, especially in the centres, and Doyle hopes to break into the team and secure a starting spot for the season ahead.

Favourite beverage: Beer, gin and tonic.

Favourite exercise in the gym: Joe loves to squat.

What he loves most about his body: Thighs/back.
