It is with deep regret that we have to inform the club of the death of Derek Wynne. Derek will not be known to the majority of club members, he did not play rugby for the club and he only joined the club after he retired when he became a member of the "Last of the Summer Wine gang" about 10 years ago.
He was one of the unsung volunteers of the club, with John Bailey they emptied all the bins round the ground every week , there are over 10 bins from the clubhouse round each pitch and even by the Cricket nets, and especially after a big weekend they can all be full. This is no mean feat as both continued well into their 80's.
Unfortunately ill health forced Derek to give this up but he still remained a volunteer and could be seen with the small band of the summer wine gang over by the score box putting the scores up every game. He was also very generous to the club , on seeing the Last of Summer Wine struggling to cut up the logs for the fire he donated an electric log splitter to make the job easier we now have a large stock of ready split logs for the fire this winter.
Derek died on 20th September at the age of 86 and our deepest Sympathies go to his family. His funeral will be next Wednesday details will be made available on the website
